Teaching

Tell me, and I will listen.
Teach me, and I will remember.
Involve me, and I will learn

ancient Chinese proverb

In my education, I like to actively involve students by conducting small experiments and bringing the topic at hand close to their world of experiences. Good teaching in my opinion comprises little successes, so that students develop confidence in their own learning. It includes the right balance between letting students find a solution on their own, and giving them a little push in the right direction when needed. In doing so, I like to use activating work formats, in which students are proactively engaged. Besides a proper work attitude, good teaching also ensures a proper mindset, in which students can not only reproduce, but also link the content to other subjects and come up with new ideas and examples themselves. After all, it is not about single courses, but a total package of skills and knowledge. In my teaching, there is room for genuine interest, critical thinking and growth in content.

In 2021, I was shortlisted for the JSVO Education Innovation Award from Leiden University and in 2022, I obtained the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) certificate.
